Black Studies (major)

This major allows advanced study in Black Studies.

Courses Required for the Black Studies major

10 credits:

• All of the following:
  • BKST 101 (Introduction to Black Studies)
  • BKST 145 (Introduction to African Studies)
  • BKST 263 (Slavery in the Americas)
  • BKST 389 (Theory and Method)
  • BKST 399 (dvanced Seminar)
• Five other courses in the department, at least two of which must be at the 300-level and two of which must be at the 200-level
• An internship or practicum may be substituted for an elective credit

Black Studies (minor)

This minor allows for intermediate study in Black Studies.

Courses Required for the Black Studies minor

5 credits:

• BKST 101 (Introduction to Black Studies)
• Four additional department credits, one of which may be Independent Study
• A project relating Black Studies to an outside discipline.
