Oldfield's research interests center on social movements, particularly the Christian Right, and globalization; at Knox, Oldfield has taught courses on religion and politics, social movements, urban politics, and democracy and globalization. The first two courses are cross-listed in the [[religious studies]] and [[anthropology and sociology]] departments, respectively. Oldfield's book ''The Right and the Rightous: The Christian Right Confronts the Republican Party'' was published in 1996.
