Steve Farris (1960-2007) was the Director of [[Dining Services]] from 2001-2007. He died of a heart attack while at a drag race. He was generally regarded as a pretty nice guy who cared about what students wanted. [[Helmut Mayer]] was hired to be his replacement in early 2008.

His management style was heavily based on answering student demands. In some ways this was commendable, but he drew some criticism for not being significantly focused on improvement on other issues, like increasing local foods offered or the environmental impact of Dining Services' operations.
