Bill's Beatles Bonanza was a show on WVKC.

How it started[edit]

The show began during fall term of 2003 when Bill Mayeroff decided he wanted to play a solid block of the Beatles on the radio. He was given an hour every Sunday afternoon on WVKC. At first, the music was mostly limited to album tracks and a small amount of post-Beatles material. Eventually, Mayeroff began acquiring more music, including covers and demo tracks. The show was Galesburg radio's only solid block of Beatles music during its four-year run on WVKC.

And in the end[edit]

The last episode of Bill's Beatles Bonanza aired on May 26, 2007. The last episode, ironically, was also the first time Mayeroff played Beatles songs for a live studio audience. The finale covered the entire musical catalog of the Fab Four (including songs recorded after the band broke up), as well as a selection of covers by bands from the New Grass Revival to the Spongetones. The show opened with the song "Magical Mystery Tour" - the title track of 1967's Magical Mystery Tour LP. The last two songs played were "The End" off the Abbey Road album and "Hello Goodbye" from side two of the Magical Mystery Tour LP.

Post Bonanza[edit]

Bill is still discovering new Beatles music, such as this recently-unearthed outtake of "Revolution 1.", which is no longer available because EMI are jerks. However, Bill is happy to provide an MP3 of the outtake if you drop him an email.
