U.S. Route 34, informally known as Highway 34, is an east-west United States highway that runs for 1,122 miles (1,806 km) from the western suburbs of Chicago to north-central Colorado. Through Rocky Mountain National Park it is known as the Trail Ridge Road where it reaches 12,183 ft (3,713 m), making it the highest paved through highway in the United States.

The route of Highway 34 is similar to the route of the California Zephyr – the train stops in many cities along the route.

In the state of Illinois, U.S. Route 34 is a major arterial highway that runs from the Iowa state line between Burlington, Iowa and Gulf Port, Illinois through Galesburg to the Illinois Route 43 in Berwyn. The entire highway in Illinois is named the "Walter Payton Memorial Highway". This is a distance of approximately 215 miles (346 km).
