It could be an entertaining, interesting and possibly educational experience to try to work on writing a piece of literature in a collaborative setting. This could exist in parallel to the encyclopedia. For an example of this already in work, see Wikifiction 1 or Wikifiction 2.

Not all features in this literary magazine would have to be written in a collaborative setting. There could be a live workshop in which someone posts a piece they are working on, and other students read and comment on it. the only problem is that anything released on this site becomes available through a Creative Commons license. That should not really be a problem, though.

What about making a section where people could list stuff they want or stuff they want to sell or give away? Books would be the key thing, but also stuff like fridges, chairs, random college things. We could list the books by department and then users could post what they have. This would further allow us the avoid the bookstore. -afitz

* I think this is a great idea. What we may want to do is urge some organization with the free store to see if they can work together with something in a wiki format. They have a book trade system going, but it is still easier to just buy it off amazon. If TWF and the free store could create something that is easy to use, that could be invaluable. Anyone have an idea of how we could do this or think that could work? Tfooq 03:55, 9 June 2007 (CDT)

tanya does a lot with the free store, and angie martin too i think. i think if people just start coming to whatever we create and maybe if free store people put up the items they have on the wiki, that would be a start. --Afitz 12:00, 9 June 2007 (CDT)

Event Organizing on Campus
In the 2006-07 school year many events were planned for the same date and time, this caused conflicts for students who wanted to attend both events. Wikifire could have a dialogue page where club leaders could plan events so as to avoid overlapping times. Clubs could also talk about budgeting since each club has a budget capped at $4,000 for the entire year. This may inspire new co-sponsorships and larger events if clubs can figure out how to work together.

I like this idea. It would also be interesting to have a page with a list of remaining budgets according to club or something. I wonder if a discussion with Brian (next year's treasurer) would help move this idea along. As far as event times, we currently have an upcoming events calendar and page. However, there may be an easier way to do this (though I can't think of one). Tfooq 01:06, 11 June 2007 (CDT)

Political endorsement
What if TWF could figure out which political figures are most liked by Knox students? That could be a very interesting idea. An endorsement by a newspaper means an endorsment by an editorial board .... but an endorsement by TWF means an endorsement by a whole community (more or less). That could be really cool. Any ideas on how to make this work practically would be great. Tfooq 12:03, 12 June 2007 (CDT)

Do you mean for Knox political figures (ie Senate), or national figures?  I think we could do either/or.  A deliberation page like those used on Wikipedia to make consensus decisions, semiprotected to registered users.  Perhaps we could have people give their Knox e-mails so we can conform their identity (if we think that's going to be an issue), and then we can announce once we've got our input.  We might also be able to rig up a sort of town-hall question-and-answer thing for Student Senate candidates, either district (this Fall) or Exec (this spring) or both.  Then again, we'd probably want to be wary of becoming a tool of Senate. ==Forum Pages==

This comes out of a lot of what's being discussed now at Talk:Alleged Campus Safety Misconduct.  We are running into an issue, in my mind, where items such as the allegations of misconduct may be useful to the community, but may not, in some interpretations, fit into the current Code of Ethics as they pertain to articles remaining objective.  Perhaps what we might consider is diversifying our page-type offerings.  The "allegations," without evidence, do not add up to objective fact without evidence, and the discussion format I proposed, while I think it is perfectly workable, isn't necessarily what a standard wiki page is meant to be like.  Aside from the Campus Safety issue, there are ideas for Knox that I would like to be able to put forward in a public venue and have discussed, and I imagine there are others who could use the opportunity, but TWF is not set up to accommodate that as part of the standard article-or-talk-page format.  I wonder if we might consider creating a separate type of content page, perhaps with the "Forum:" prefix, that could be used to discuss ideas and concerns in a format that is clearly differentiated from the "objective" offerings of the standard articles but that still allows (and indeed allows the expansion of) discussions and forums on these important topics.  Thoughts? ====Thought====

That seems to be a fair and reasonable way to handle the distinction between that kind of page and the rest of the site, as long as a clear enough distinction is made as to the different natures of those two sections.  Basically, I'm for this--especially given the ridiculous state the mentioned page is in as it stands.
