Colorado is a fully-funtioning member of the United States (not counting the Coors family). Half of the state is in the mountains. The other half has an uncanny resemblance to Kansas.

A fair number of Knox student come from Colorado. Then they spend four years complaining about how flat Illinois is. The gene which recognizes topography on a map is believed to be missing from American citizens born in Colorado.
