An artist's interpretation of Prof. Schulz

Professor Charles E. Schulz is the current physics department chair. He is a Knox graduate of 1972 and has been teaching here since 1981.

Research

Schulz's favorite experiment is Mossbauer spectroscopy, which allows him to analyze the structure of various substances. He routinely collaborates with professors from other institutions who need to make these specialized measurements.

Courses

As with the other faculty, there are several courses that Schulz appears to prefer teaching. These include

  • Modern Physics
  • Intro to Research
  • Physics 120
  • Astrophysics
  • Senior Seminar in Analytical Mechanics

Notable Quotes

  • "There's some virtue in laziness."
  • When asked a question by a student: *sigh* "Well, I guess it's back to the basics."
  • "Nice going, Einstein."
  • "There are some students who can do that [skip class] and just come to the final. Gary is not one of them."
  • After overhearing Doug Franke swear in the adjacent lab: "Golly, such language."
  • "Theorists are a different breed."
