Church
CHURCH: OPEN-MIC
Church is a series of Open-Mics first created by Missy Preston & Forrest Marie during the fall of their first year. Over the years it has expanded to draw students from all social groups to attend and preform art of all forms including poetry (slam, rap, verse, free-form, etc), music (acoustic guitar covers & original songs are staples), comedy, acting, prose, dance, and avant-garde student art, including occasionally showing short student films. CHURCH has no judge system, and rolling sign-up system. Generally 2 or 3 CHURCH open-mics are held each season, with smaller, spontanious hostings occurring on porches and coffee tables near you!
HERITAGE
The first CHURCH occurred around the twisted tree at the crux of the quads and main campus. Neal 3 hosted a series of CHURCH open-mics, where their following grew dramatically. This is when the first recordings began. In the following years, CHURCH has been held in TOMPKINS 3, Book Haus, The Castle of Awesomeness and Truth, and The Hillbilly Palace, where it is still held to this day.
In the early days, Forrest managed to get student union to pay for the snacks while still keeping CHURCH to be an invite-only event. Each open-mic is known for signature posters which advertise the event and provide information about a vague theme.
CHURCH is now hosted by Missy & Xeno Coufal, in its fifth year,
with guest hosting from Forrest when she can get back to the dirty burg.
CHURCH is known to last for many long hours for those who stick around, showcasing students of all styles, skills, and sentiments.
HISTORICALLY SIGNIFICANT MOMENTS & PAST PERFORMERS:
Forrest is well known to open CHURCH with a sermon.
Missy typically performs original music.
