A shot is a small quantity of hard alcohol (Typically 1.0 oz) consumed very quickly by opening one's throat. Shots are sometimes followed by a sweet or tasteful 'chaser' that takes some of the alcohol's burn off of the drinker's throat. Mixed drinks also work the same way. Shots can be used as bombs in another drink, such as the Irish Carbomb (Bailey's Irish Cream in Guiness), or Jaegerbomb (Jaegermeister in beer).
Shots can also be of one-and-a-half or double size (1.5 and 2.0 oz, of course).
Shots are an excellent form of pre-gaming.
Liquor before beer, you're in the clear. Beer before liquor, never sicker.
