Peoria is a good-sized city about 50 miles east of Galesburg. It has an airport, a tangible night life, and Thai and Indian food. Apparently Tandoori Hut is more authentic than Sizzling India, but also more sketchy. Sushigawa is pretty delicious.
There's also a river that runs through it.
