Outgoing 2007-2008 Student Senate President Brad Middleton distributed a campus-wide e-mail announcing the end of his term as President. A slightly modified version also appeared as a letter to the editor in TKS.

The Letter[edit]

Subject: [studentsenate] Farewell Letter from 2007-2008 Student Senate President

From: Elaine Wilson

Date: 26 May 2008 02:05:41 -0500

Dear Student Body,

This will be my last correspondence as your President. On Monday May 26th, pursuant to a motion passed by the Student Senate at its May 15th meeting, President-elect Elaine Wilson will become acting president.

Throughout this long and contentious year, I was humbled and honored by the faith that so many of you showed faith in me. Some, however, did not support me. That is to be expected, but I leave this office knowing that I served and represented the students of Knox College to the best of my ability.

Your Student Senate accomplished a lot this year, but I am most proud of two accomplishments in particular. The first was the Sworn Officer Compromise during the fall and the second was the creation of the Senate Sustainability Committee and the establishment of a Green Fee.

Finally, I hope that next year the Student Body can move beyond the personal vendettas and political power plays that marred this year. Those evils of our democratic system only serve the individuals who employ them and do a great disservice to the shared goal of bettering the lives of students and the College that we all call home.

Thank you,

Brad

Substitute text[edit]

There have been differences in the reception of Middleton's letter on campus. One anonymous editor on The Wiki Fire posted the following as a substitute for Middleton's actual letter under the heading of this article:

"For eight months, ever since this campus security business, you've had a lot of—-a lot of fun—-that you've had an opportunity to attack me and I think I've given as good as I've taken.....But as I leave you I want you to know-—just think how much you're going to be missing. You won't have Middleton to kick around anymore, because, gentlemen, this is my last press conference."
