-Jasmin loves chemistry, being a blood elf, and Flunk Day.

-The following is an impassioned love letter she wrote her senior year, when the absence of Flunk Day was just too much to bear:

Dearest Flunk Day,

It's been over a year since I saw you last; your grass glinting green in the noon-day sun, your blue sky winking coyly at me, and the dulcet tones of your Friars calling me to come out and play. I miss you so much that my heart constricts painfully even writing this letter, preventing me from writing this paper on how Side Chains of Cobalt Corrinoids Control the Sensitivity and Selectivity in the Colorimetric Detection of Cyanide. Each springtime day that I awake only to find that I have slept dutifully until my morning class, I curse the sweet uninterrupted slumber that separates me from you.

Sometimes I am awakened with birdsong hope thrilling through my veins! I hear the masses outside chanting your name... but always I find them to be lonely acolytes like myself who in their grief at your absence have torn their hair in half-mad wishing that their yelling will summon you from the bright dawn. I return to sleep each night wishing, nay, praying that you will return to the fields of this campus and wash away our collective heartache with your bright song.

Please, Flunk Day, please! I am desperate for you! We are desperate for you! I have an exam this Friday but I can't eat, I can't sleep, I certainly can't study because my longing for you is so strong that it beats out even the most immediate of Inorganic Chemistry problems! How can I pay attention to nomenclature trends when all I want to name is you, you, you!

Send me a sign! A bird, a flower, an olive branch so that I may know we are not forgotten in these springtime days... That you will, tomorrow, rise with glory above the world and proclaim with bells ringing and Friars singing: "I AM"

All my Love,

Jasmin Tomlins, Knox Class of 2009
