Editing The Knox Student

''The Knox Student'' is the student newspaper of [[Knox College]], founded in 1878.
==Online edition==
The online edition of ''TKS'' launched officially February 28, 2008.

The site is being designed from scratch by online editor [[Matt Baker]] using entirely open source software. Features will be added regularly.

==Print edition==
''The Knox Student'' publishes a weekly print edition every Thursday afternoon while school is in session, as well as a freshman orientation issue at the beginning of the year and a senior issue that takes the place of ''[[The Gale]]'' - which at one point, was the college's yearbook.

Every student, staff, faculty, and trustee receive a free copy of the newspaper.  Parents, Alumni, and other interested persons may subscribe to ''The Knox Student'' by contacting the [mailto:tksmarketing@knox.edu Business Manager]. The price is $60 per year.

The newspaper accepts national and local advertisements. Local ads are placed with the [mailto:tksmarketing@knox.edu Business Manager].  Knox College affiliates automatically receive a discounted rate.

The reporting is sometimes inaccurate, as with any newspaper. Many copies of TKS travel straight from students' mailboxes into the recycling bin.

''The Knox Student'' receives funding from the [[Broadcast, Internet and Publications Board]].  The budget for 2006-2007 is approximately $14,000.  The cost per paper is approximately $0.25 (assuming 2,000 copies are produced).

TKS has, over the past few years, been mired in controversy. Quotes are often truncated and taken entirely out of context for the manipulation of stories. The paper is also rife with spelling and grammatical errors.

Hostility is predictably directed towards TKS by those who have done something to make themselves look like an ass on such a scale as to be reported upon by the Knox campus newspaper.  Though periodically mired in controversies, the worst thing reasonable and disinterested observers can say is that they try to stuff two weeks worth of news into a weekly paper, complain about lack of journalistic standards despite their own lack of education in regards to journalism, and their paper is rife with spelling and grammatical errors.  

The best way to deal with this problem would be to join TKS and throw your two cents in. Help the reformation. You can do it. We believe in you. You have enough dedication to type in the URL for this site and click on this page. You also have the dedication to improve TKS.
