A Knox Box (known far better as a K-Box) is a mailbox maintained by Postal Services in the mailroom in the basement of Seymour Hall. There are a couple thousand K-Boxes.
Box numbers are listed with a K and hyphen in front (eg, K-513). The lowest numbers are assigned to staff (generally one collective box per office or department) and faculty, with the rest (approximately K-250 and above) are assigned more or less alphabetically to students. Since students have about a 25% turnover rate, and students keep their boxes for all four years, the vacated boxes are then assigned alphabetically to incoming students, with a roughly alphabetical result.
Postal Services much prefers it when the K-Box is listed on all incoming correspondence to students, so that they do not have to look it up.
