A student in the second year of study, or having more credits than a first-year (or freshman, depending on your word choice) but fewer than a junior.

Sophomores tend to be in charge of many things around Knox, because the seniors are too busy getting ready to graduate, the juniors are all overseas, and the first-years are occupied with complaining about the stairs in Old Main and trying not to get lost in SMC.

Sophomore year is when most Knox students start smoking.
