AmerenIP is the local electricity provider for Knox and Galesburg. AmerenIP is part of the Ameren Corporation, which through several subsidiaries provides power for nearly all of central and southern Illinois and large parts of Missouri, including the St. Louis area.
In the August 2007 windstorm on 24 August 2007, fallen trees on the Knox campus and elsewhere cut power to approximately 30,000 Ameren customers. By the following day nearly 10,000 Galesburg customers were still without power.
