Jazz House (left) and Naked House (right) on Flunk Day 2004. Campus Safety was surprisingly cool with the Slip 'n Slide.

Formerly a theme house, the Jazz House is a permanent house (akin to ABLE or the International House) for students involved with jazz on campus and their groupies. It is located at 260 West Tompkins Street, between Exec and the Naked House. During Rootabaga jazz festival guest artists sometimes stay in the house.

History

The Jazz House was founded in the mid-90's and was made a permanent house in the 2004-2005 school year. It houses nine students, ideally members of the Knox Jazz Ensemble or jazz combos; however, in recent years a lack of interest has placed several non-musicians into the house. The basement used to flood like a bitch, and probably still does. The best seat in the house is the roof over the back porch.

Parties

Jazz House parties are most commonly noted for loud, percussion heavy, experimental music performed by members of the Knox Jazz Ensemble and other campus bands. Jazz House parties are very loud. Wear ear plugs and expect a noise violation to shut down the fun just as you're getting into the scene. If you don't like warm, sweaty, drunk bodies slamming up against one another, do not go to the Jazz House. This is a mild form of moshing.
