Colette in Love

Colette in Love was a barestage production in Studio Theatre. The play centered around Colette, a burlesque drag king performer in France around the time of Moulin Rouge's popularity. Colette must decide between her abusive ex-husband who stole her work and kept her under strict control, and two new lovers one male, one female who are both problematic in other ways.

It was performed Fall 2006.

Lights Keep Fallin' on My Head

If you're in the theatre long enough you will find out that during the load-in of Colette in Love a light fell on actor, Matt Hundley's head, and director, Courtney Meaker's arm. This is an amusing story now but at the time it was quite bloody and a lot of screaming. One of the light hangers in the grid had just placed a light on one of the boards instead of hanging it on the pipe and as he shifted, the light fell onto Courtney and Matt below who were moving risers. There was little bit of a delay after the light fell in which Courtney laughed thinking it had just hit her and was about to say it could have been a lot worse when she saw Matt clutching his head and blood spewing from the cut. She grabbed his head and held it to her chest as she rushed him to studio lobby all the while screaming for someone to call an ambulance. Luckily, Matt and Courtney, though in pain were able to joke in the lobby. Sam Newport who rushed in moments later began running lines with Matt to make sure his memory was still intact. Mike Smith called the ambulance and made sure that order was maintained. Courtney accompanied Matt to the hospital. Matt had several stitches sewed into his head and even went out and about that night much to his director's annoyance. The incident became quite amusing to Pamela Schuller, who liked to pretend to drop things on Matt's head as he passed under the Studio booth. To which he replied, "Too soon, Pam. Too soon."

Most everyone agreed that Matt looked pretty bad-ass just after the light had fallen, as he was wearing a Zinedine Zidane jersey and jeans. It looked like he had been involved in a soccer riot. Also, 9 stitches in the forehead is quite attractive to the ladies...being gay, Matt found that information quite useless.
