The Mathematics Department is one of eighteen academic departments at Knox. It offers two majors and two minors. The department is located in SMC.

Mathematics (major)

This major allows advanced study in mathematics.

10 credits:

• All of the following:
  • MATH 152 (Calculus II)
  • MATH 205 (Calculus III)
  • MATH 210 (Linear Algebra I)
  • MATH 300 (Mathematical Structures)
• One of the following:
  • Both of the following:
    • MATH 321 (Mathematical Statistics I)
    • MATH 322 (Mathematical Statistics II)
  • Both of the following:
    • MATH 331 (Analysis I)
    • MATH 332 (Analysis II)
  • Both of the following:
    • MATH 341 (Abstract Algebra I)
    • MATH 342 (Abstract Algebra II)
• Four elective credits in the department numbered above 170, three of which must be 200- or 300-level
• One of the following:
  • MATH 361 (Research in Mathematics II)
  • MATH 399 (Seminar in Mathematics)
  • MATH 400 (Advanced Studies)

Two credits from outside the department may be counted toward the major with the chair's permission.

This minor allows for intermediate study in Mathematics.
