I didn't delete it, I moved it to below the useful links. I am really excited about the events calendar, actually. We need a new front page design, for sure, so all these things can be presented properly. I was talking to a web designer alumnus who has been using the wiki fire, and he said he might be able to help out, but I don't know if that will happen. Policy on people

I moved it to Project:Policy on people to keep it uniform with the other policy pages. I also made a category for the policies and put a link on the Project:About page. I like it. And you (or anybody) can certainly still edit it. I will protect it, but editors can still make changes. Does that make sense?Tfooq 02:44, 14 May 2007 (CDT)

Regarding Categories

You seem to be doing a lot of categorization, so I thought I pick your brain.

So, it is my understanding that when adding categories to a page, you shouldn't add a category AND something that is a sub category. For example, on the Proof page, it should only have Studio show and not Department of Theatre and Dance since the former is a subcategory of the latter.

I can see where a page would have more than one category, but am I correct in my thinking regarding subcategories? GreatHeights 12:08, 14 May 2007 (CDT)

I was wondering if you could refer me to some info on how to use the different name spaces. For instance, I noticed that the Policy On People draft was under your name space. How did you do that? Also, can you tell me how create/upload templates? I was trying to suggest a merge, but when I tried to use the merge template as suggested in the tutorial on WikiMedia it didn't work. Is it kosher to copy and paste templates from other Wikis? It didn't seem to me that it should be an issue, but I thought I'd ask you if there was any etiquette regarding this, as you seem to be our resident Wiki expert. Deletions

I don't know who I was responding to either, since they didn't sign their comment. I have a tendency to want to "clean up" and organize, and that's why I was deleting some of the superflous pages and redirects. After someone questioned it though, I stopped to think about it, and realized that, like you said, there was really no harm being caused by those pages and no need to delete them. It also prompted my interest in establishing some guildines for deleting pages on TheWikiFire. GreatHeights 15:58, 17 May 2007 (CDT)

Our First Vandal

To: all sysops. - The Wiki Fire has had a coming of age today. It had it's first big vandal. An anonymous user started deleting content and drawing penises on pages and things like that. Brian Camozzi caught it and alerted me. He and Andy Fitz worked to fix the problems and all changes have been rolled back. As sysops, you all have the privilege to ban users and IPs. The problem is that Knox only has a handful of IPs, so we cannot really ban IPs like other wikis can. However, if vandalism is in progress, you can ban that IP to see if the user gets bored and goes away. Just remember to unblock it after a half hour or something. Anyway, the site is entering puberty, so be on the look out for irrational emotional outbursts.Tfooq 22:49, 18 May 2007 (CDT)

Hi, Don. I made a VNC article, but then I started wondering if that was OK. Who should I ask to make sure that publishing a guide like that is alright. I would guess that if too many people start using it, Leibniz might suffer performance issues. Also, feel free to aid in the information on the page. editing system working well

so, there have been at least two pretty bad statements posted tonight. One you changed after six minutes and the other one someone else changed after only three. While it's discouraging (yet predictable) that people would write these things, it's very encouraging that the close editing system seems to be working very well. I am happy with how little time obviously mean things stay on the site. Gives me confidence that the system can last. Just a couple thoughts.Tfooq 03:36, 28 May 2007 (CDT)
