The English Department is one of eighteen academic departments at Knox. It offers two majors and two minors. The department is located in Old Main.

The department offers one Creative Writing major, and one Creative Writing minor.

Creative Writing (major)[edit]

This major allows advanced study in Creative Writing.

Courses Required for the Creative Writing major[2][edit]

12 credits:

  • Five of the following, at least three of which must be at the 300-level, and spanning at least two genres:
  • Four elective courses in the department, at least three of which must be at the 300-level and the rest at the 200-level, in literature, film, or theory
  • One course in literature outside the Anglo-American tradition (translated or original text), in any department
  • One course in the creative process of an allied field outside the department
  • ENG 399

Creative Writing (minor)[edit]

This minor allows for intermediate study in Creative Writing.

Courses Required for the Creative Writing minor[3][edit]

6 credits:

  • ENG 120 (Introduction to Literature)
  • One of the following:
    • ENG 346 (Modern and/or Contemporary Poetry)
    • ENG 347 (Modern and/or Contemporary Fiction)
  • One course in non-Anglo-American literature
  • Three courses in creative writing, at least two of which must be at the 300-level

No courses may be double-counted. At least two courses, including at least one 300-level course, must be focused before 1900.
