The Anthropology and Sociology Department is one of eighteen academic departments at Knox. It offers one major and one minor. The department is located on the third floor of GDH.

Anthropology and Sociology (major)

This major allows advanced study in Anthropology and Sociology.

Courses Required for the Anthropology and Sociology major

10 credits:

• All of the following:
  • ANSO 300 (Modern Theories of Society and Culture)
  • ANSO 301 (Methodologies in Sociology and Anthropology)
  • ANSO 398 (Research Design)
  • ANSO 399 (Research Seminar)
• One of the following:
  • ANSO 231 (Native America: Identity and Adaptation)
  • ANSO 232 (Indigenous Peoples of Latin America)
  • ANSO 233 (American Utopias)
  • ANSO 234 (Culture, Class, and Identity in Mexico)
  • ANSO 236 (Peoples and Cultures of Southeast Asia)
• Two courses at the 100-level
• Three other courses in the department, at least one of which must be at the 300-level (with permission, two of these may be from related studies outside the department)

Anthropology and Sociology (minor)

This minor allows for intermediate study in Anthropology and Sociology.

5 credits:

• No more than two 100-level courses
• At least one 300-level course (not ANSO 301)
