The Gender and Women's Studies Program is an interdisciplinary academic program offered at Knox. It offers one major and one minor.

The program offers one Gender and Women's Studies major and one Gender and Women's Studies minor.

Gender and Women's Studies (major)[edit]

This major allows advanced study in Gender and Women's Studies.

Courses Required for the Gender and Women's Studies major[2][edit]

10 credits:

  • All of the following:
  • One of the following:
    • GWST 206 (Theory in the Flesh: Writings by Feminists of Color)
    • GWST 243 (Philosophies of Feminism)
  • One department course in the humanities
  • One department course in the social sciences
  • Four department electives, at least two of which must be at the 300-level
  • Two credits outside the department (cross-listed courses count), at least one of which must be in a methods or theory course. The following are approved:

With department permission up to two non-department courses may count toward the major.

Gender and Women's Studies (minor)[edit]

This minor allows for intermediate study in Gender and Women's Studies.

5 credits:

  • GWST 101 (Women, Culture, and Society)
  • One of the following:
    • GWST 206 (Theory in the Flesh: Writings by Feminists of Color)
    • GWST 243 (Philosophies of Feminism)
    • GWST 280 (Feminist Methodologies)
  • Three electives, one of which may be Independent Study
