Brian Camozzi
Brian Camozzi is a member of the Knox College Class of 2008. He is a Political Science and anthropology/sociology double major from Sacramento, California. He lives in Simonds 2.
2007 Senate Campaign
Brian is currently running for Student Senate President for the 2007-2008 school year, on a platform of significant reform to Senate in order to make it more democratic and more responsive. He intends to optimize Senate's institutional advantages to give students as much oversight as possible and as they are willing to accept, and also to ensure that Senate can function independently in effectively representing the general student body.
More information on Brian's platform is available at [2].
Early Life
Brian was born on 16 March 1987 in Roseville, California, and grew up in Orangevale, California. He attended Mira Loma High School, where he was, among other things, President of the German Club and the Croquet Club. After receiving an IB Diploma there, he came to Knox.
Activities
Brian does a lot of things.
Student Senate
Brian has been in Student Senate for two school years, during 2005-2006 (representing Five-Name basement and Furrow) and 2006-2007 (representing Four-Name and Furrow). For both years he has been a member of the Safety and Services Committee, as well as Chair of the Carpet Standardization Subcommittee. Last year he was the student representative to the Board of Publications, and this year he is Representative to the Faculty Committee. He is currently running for Student Senate President for the 2007-2008 academic year.
Model UN
Brian is Secretary-General of Model UN for the 2007-2008 school year. Previously he had been Undersecretary-General and Treasurer. He's gone on Xavier-subsidized trips to St. Louis, Denver, and Montreal, where he argued about bioterrorism, African development, and human rights commissions. He is a very dull person. Mariko Toyoji once told him that Model UN is actually a form of LARP called WARP (World Action Role-Playing). Brian thinks she is wrong, because we don't really have costumes.
Gizmo
Brian has worked at the Gizmo since September 2004, which is before Yasser Arafat died. He has very high seniority. Sometimes Dining Services and the Health Department make him wear a hairnet. He looks silly. If you make fun of him you will get a crappy breakfast bagel.
WVKC
Brian's show, Rickshaw Credenza, broadcasts Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4:00. He plays a lot of indie pop and 70s music and sometimes some Petula Clark. Somebody once called in and asked him to play something "hard" when the next song on his playlist was "Alfie" by Dionne Warwick. Previous incarnations of his show have included Let's Flood the Valley and other in-jokes lost to history.
Midnight Croquet
Brian brought the croquet sets from his high school club to Knox, and for fall term 2005 he and others hosted croquet games in the Quads Mondays at midnight. Then it got cold.
Other Activities
Brian is a member of Mortarboard for some reason, and also of Pi Sigma Alpha, where he is the secretary. He studied abroad in Berlin in fall 2006. In spring 2005 he held an internship with Rep. Lane Evans at his Galesburg district office. In summer 2005 he interned with Common Cause California, and in summer 2006 he worked as Assistant Field Director on the Charlie Brown for Congress campaign in California's 4th District. This summer he has to find a paying job because Berlin made him poor.
Brian and Amtrak
Brian likes to ride Amtrak trains between California and Illinois, especially the California Zephyr (but also the Southwest Chief). It takes about two days.
